TIE Lesson

I finally know what I'm doing! My teacher would like me to involve a number of things in my lesson. I am going to teach my lesson on counting using visuals from literature and patterns using a craft activity with guided practice using manipulatives. I will use my voicethread as a review of my lesson. Half the students will demonstrate their counting skills, and the other half with demonstrate patterns.

(1) Number and Operations: Understanding the concept of number is fundamental to mathematics. The child:
  • Counts concrete objects to five or higher.

(2) Patterns: Recognizing patterns and relationships among objects is an important component in children’s intellectual development. The child:
  • Begins to predict what comes next when patterns are extended.

TIE Lesson Ideas

I was only able to talk to my CT about my TIE lesson for a few minutes, but she seemed excited about the idea. I am field basing in a Pre-K classroom so I think using voicethread to show a lot of pictures and other ideas will be especially beneficial for the younger kids. I have not done a lesson in science yet and my teacher and I both thought science would be a good topic to use a lot of visuals and sounds. I could make a really fun lesson about their science topic and include hands-on activities to go with the lesson. She isn't sure exactly what the lesson will be yet, but we are brainstorming ideas.

Haunted House Patterns-Blooms and TIE Activity

Blooms-Haunted House Patterns

TIE Activity-Haunted House Patterns
We chose a VT about a kindergarten class using a haunted house with pictures to create patterns. They explained their picture patterns using a,b,c in different orders.  Each student described their picture and how they formed their patterns using audio tool on VT.  I think this was a fun activity that engaged students in learning different patterns in a new way. They were also able to see other students pictures and what patterns they chose by using the VT tools.

Google Presentation Tool Put to Use!

I think using visuals in a classroom is great way to keep students interested. Many students are also visual learners. If they see how to do a lesson or activity, they will have an easier time completing it themselves. Students could also work together to maybe make a classroom Google presentation. With the help of the teacher, they could make a presentation on a topic they have been learning about. This would get every student involved by giving a group of five a certain job when creating the presentation.
